Tennessee fans were pleasantly surprised on Wednesday with the addition of California linebacker Henry To’oto’o to the Vols 2019 recruiting class. To’oto’o is the 44th ranked player in the nation, according to industry composite 247Sports.com.

Henry To’oto’o Commits to Tennessee

To’oto’o addresses a position of immediate need for the Vols as the third ranked outside linebacker in the nation. Tennessee ranked 76th in FBS last season in sacks, below Georgia Southern and Louisiana-Lafayette. Pressure from the outside linebacker is a must in head coach Jeremy Pruitt’s system.

The California product is out of national powerhouse De La Salle High School. He’s 6’2″, 230, and clearly still has room to grow. He’ll compete immediately for playing time at Tennessee.

While To’oto’o’s on field potential is important for Tennessee fans, it also adds a little excitement to an otherwise quite National Signing Day. The only real noise Tennessee fans expected today was longtime commit Darnell Wright signing with the Vols.

Now, Tennessee fans get a double dose of excitement. Not only did Pruitt and staff beat out Alabama for To’oto’o, they also went into California and grabbed one of the top players in the state. While Tennessee has had success in California in the past, Pruitt’s success with To’oto’o after two dismal seasons and a lot of headwind provides some positive momentum for National Signing Day.

Now Tennessee fans wait for Wright’s decision.

And an improved team on the field in 2019.
